Understanding Technology and Business
The mission of the Technology and Business Management undergraduate program is to provide students with an understanding of how public and private sector entities operate efficiently and effectively. Students will learn about how technology affects businesses, the roles that technology plays in our lives and how the technology infrastructure is built. They will also gain a better understanding of how social media affects marketing strategies, Internet usage and online privacy issues. A bachelor’s degree program in IT and BBA is the first step towards this goal.
Today’s business leaders rely on technology to improve their day-to-day operations. Some companies have entire divisions or “cities” dedicated to technology and innovation. These businesses are considered the cream of the crop in their field because they implement cutting-edge business applications, utilize innovative communication methods and embrace the latest technologies. A successful business requires its employees to use technology to their benefit in order to be more productive.
Those in IT and BBA professions work closely with business leaders to introduce new technology and innovation into the business. Their role is to implement these innovations within the organization. In many cases, they work as the catalyst for change. They use technology to improve processes, provide information services, develop new products or services and facilitate business communications.
The goal for IT and BBA professionals is to become technology leaders. This goal can be realized in many different ways. They must apply themselves to courses and internships that focus on specific areas. Individuals who possess technical expertise in a particular area can apply themselves to related courses and internships that further develop their skills. Many individuals find fulfilling careers in the technology leadership field by founding their own companies or founding a technical consulting firm.
IT and BBA professionals who want to achieve this goal must be willing to look outside of their normal scope of work. Sometimes, organizations require technology work that is not traditionally IT-related. For example, the Small Business Administration recently announced a program that recognizes the need for entrepreneurial startups to tap into emerging technologies that help businesses function more effectively. Other times, an individual might choose to focus on emerging trends that are not technically related but have the potential to solve problems for business owners.
There are many ways to transform a company. Technology can become part of a company culture. Employees at all levels – from the executive suite to the front line can communicate more effectively as a result of technological functions. Additionally, a well-chosen IT team can make the transformation seamless for the business and its employees.
Technology and business leaders also play an important role in business outcomes. It is becoming increasingly difficult to conduct business operations without computers or the internet. Individuals and businesses rely heavily on technology to do research, store data and find out what is going on in the world around them. IT managers help ensure that the business uses the technology and works best for everyone involved. They also help ensure that business functions run smoothly and data is secured.
Technology and business leaders can play a vital role in transforming a company. They can be instrumental in the success or failure of a business. Technology can be complex, so leaders must be willing to take time to understand technology and how it works. Many organizations lack leaders who are willing to embrace new technologies and work with employees to put them to use. By hiring an effective technology manager, organizations can ensure their businesses are technology strong and moving toward future business goals.
Technology and business leaders can play a key role in operational excellence. They develop processes that will drive business results. They can work closely with executives to improve overall business performance. Businesses that embrace technology and work with technology leaders have proven to increase profits, reduce expenses and gain a competitive advantage. These same businesses have experienced significant decreases in cost of ownership as a result.
Organizations that embrace a comprehensive transformation agenda stand a good chance of attaining their business goals. There are many benefits to implementing an agenda. One of the primary benefits is that it builds organizational capital. Capital is money needed to finance a project. When organizations have more capital available, they have the ability to take on new technology and business activities, and pursue long-term strategic objectives.
All technology and business leaders should participate in the transformation process. The best way to be successful in this effort is to develop a common vision that integrates current practices with future planning. When all of these leaders participate in a comprehensive transformation agenda, the organizational capital created will have a greater effect on company results and the ability of the business to realize its business goals.
